Farm Progress America, September 12, 2022

Max Armstrong talks about the impact of disease on food availability, particularly lettuce.

Max Armstrong says you may have to settle for a different salad, after hot weather is causing disease in lettuce varieties in California. There’s no food safety concern, but plant safety is being impacted. Yields have declined, so there is less to sell to stores. Pythium wilt and INSD are both causing problems, and according to one local organization the season is resembling that of a couple years ago.

Max Armstrong’s Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Max Armstrong, veteran farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
