The annual GreenChill Awards Ceremony celebrated the food retail industry’s trailblazers in refrigerant management, honoring the companies that are leading the charge in reducing emissions and boosting sustainability. </p></div><div><p paraid="1783644374" paraeid="{9a664bfc-4f83-4e67-ac22-cc1af04e6512}{202}">Since its launch in 2007, the <a href="https://www.epa.gov/greenchill" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">GreenChill Program</a> has grown significantly, with more than one-third of the U.S. food retail industry now participating. The number of stores in the Corporate Emissions Reduction Program has nearly tripled, increasing from 4,500 to over 13,500 today. On average, GreenChill Partners maintain emissions rates that are approximately half of the industry average. </p></div><div><p paraid="1794864826" paraeid="{9a664bfc-4f83-4e67-ac22-cc1af04e6512}{233}">Each year, the EPA recognizes companies for their outstanding achievements in refrigerant management through the EPA GreenChill Awards. This year’s honorees were celebrated for their efforts to reduce emissions and enhance sustainability. </p></div><div><h5 paraid="497559626" paraeid="{9a664bfc-4f83-4e67-ac22-cc1af04e6512}{243}">2024 GreenChill Awards Recipients </h5></div><div><p paraid="1275510578" paraeid="{fcef5b99-3689-4497-8284-d92bd3d30f66}{2}"><img src="https://www.fmi.org/images/default-source/blog-images/greenchill-target.tmb-large-350-.jpg?Culture=en&sfvrsn=c038ec9c_1" style="float:right;margin:10px;" alt="Greenchill Target" class="-align-right" sf-size="85899" />City Market, Onion River Co-op, and Meijer received the award for Best Corporate Emissions Rate, while BriarPatch Food Co-op and Brookshire Grocery Company earned recognition for Most Improved Emissions Rate. Exceptional Goal Achievement awards went to Hy-Vee and K-VA-T Food Stores/Food City. </p></div><div><p paraid="2014607273" paraeid="{fcef5b99-3689-4497-8284-d92bd3d30f66}{12}">Target was recognized with the Store Leadership Award for its remodel in San Antonio, Texas, where the installation of a transcritical carbon dioxide system and adiabatic gas cooler significantly improved energy efficiency. Target also received recognition for recertifying 10 stores in California, Florida, New York, South Carolina, and Washington. </p></div><div><p paraid="2105824780" paraeid="{fcef5b99-3689-4497-8284-d92bd3d30f66}{28}"><img src="https://www.fmi.org/images/default-source/2015-community-outreach-awards-fb/greenchill-awards.tmb-large-350-.jpg?Culture=en&sfvrsn=606c182_1" style="float:left;margin:10px;" alt="Greenchill Awards" class="sf-immutable-selected -align-left" sf-size="85501" />ALDI earned the Store Certification Excellence award for certifying more stores than any other supermarket chain in GreenChill’s history, with 611 stores achieving Platinum-Level Certification. For Store Recertification Excellence, ALDI was honored for maintaining GreenChill Certification for 164 stores across multiple states for the fifth consecutive year, </p></div><div><p paraid="971097163" paraeid="{fcef5b99-3689-4497-8284-d92bd3d30f66}{44}">For the 12th consecutive year, Hillphoenix was recognized as the commercial systems manufacturer with the most GreenChill Certified Stores installations. </p></div><div><p paraid="1289095725" paraeid="{fcef5b99-3689-4497-8284-d92bd3d30f66}{62}">As we wrap up another successful GreenChill Awards Ceremony, it’s clear that the food retail industry is making huge strides in sustainable business practices. With more companies joining the movement and setting new standards for emissions reduction, the future looks greener than ever.
