What’s driving higher fertilizer prices?

The Around Farm Progress podcast talks with a consultant and industry veteran to better understand factors hitting this key crop input.

The rise of crop prices has been great news for farmers dealing with a slump since 2013, but that boost in per-bushel income has been matched by rising input prices including fertilizer. But what’s driving that runup in prices and will in continue into 2023?

Mike Rahm an independent consultant with more than 35 years in the fertilizer industry, shares his insights on just what factors are influencing prices – especially for nitrogen. His background includes working with Mosaic, Cargill Crop Nutrition and IMC Global. Today he consults on the agricultural and plant nutrient business. His work includes providing near-term outlook information and offering long-term analysis and company specific strategic reviews.

The rise of nitrogen prices is a complex issue and his insights show that there are more factors at work her beyond a war in Ukraine. It’s a fascinating look at just what’s driving fertilizer market prices today and into 2023. Give it a listen.
